The article describes a new 3D ultra-high resolution seismic technique for shallow water studies. Due to the growing volume of site-surveys, especially on the Arctic shelfof Russia, it has become an urgent task of improving the quality and reliability of the information obtained about the structure of the top of sub-bottom sediments. Relatively rare spatial network of single- and multichannelUHR seismic surveys does not allow mapping the most potentially dangerous geological hazards, thereby increasing the risks associated with construction and operationof engineering structures. 3D seismic surveys allow to obtain a detailed seismic image of the geological environment, but its applicationto geotechnical problems is limited by technological and economic factors, so that atthe moment there are individual techniques, which are used to solve practical problems. The proposed 3D UHR survey system can be composed from standard set of equipment and can be easily adapted to solve specific problems. The article discusses the results of field observations in Kandalaksha Bay of the White Sea.
Materials and methods
Acquisition of 3D ultra-high resolution shallow water seismic survey.
Results
The results of 3D UHR survey with using the proposed technique in Kandalaksha Bay of the White Sea showed that it can be used for a detailed study of the upper part of the sub-bottom sediment. Using the standardseismic equipment reduces the cost of thefield observations, the parameters of recording systems can vary widely and adapt to address specific engineering geological problem.
Сonclusions
It is effective to use a 3D UHR seismic data to solve various geotechnical problems in shallow waters, especially in areas with complex geological environment. The economic efficiency of the method is akey factor in determining the possibility of its use in a standard set of geophysical research.
